The Notorious B.I.G.’s 1997 release, Life After Death, will go down as one of the greatest albums of all time. A double album with flawless lyricism, cinematic concepts and top-notch production, Life After Death was the epitome of what a classic album should sound like. It was Biggie at his best: charming (“Nasty Boy”), angry (“My Downfall), celebratory (“Hypnotize”) and compassionate (“Miss U”). Despite all of the styles, subjects and facets Biggie hit on with the LP, the one song that surprised New Yorkers was “Going Back to Cali.”
