Drake Rocks NYC

“Buzz so big, I could probably sell a blank disc.” If you don’t know who he his by now, then you might be living under a rock. On Tuesday night, Drake brought the house down at S.O.B.’s in New York City for the Hot 97’s “Who’s Next” concert series. But by all the sold out concerts he’s had already, Drake isn’t who’s next, he’s already here! Drizzy’s fan base is pretty crazy, it was more than just a bunch of teenage girls hoping to catch a glimpse of the Degrassi TV star turned rapper/singer. In the audience were some of the entertainment industry’s elite: Kanye West, MC Lyte, BET’s Stephen Hill and Warner Music Group COO, Julie Greenwald just to name a few. The stage was lit, the venue was packed and Drake definitely put it down. From the smooth sounds of his R&B track “Brand New” to the trancelike flow of “Uptown” (which he performed with Bun B), fans were definitely musically satiated.

Pitbull at S.O.B.s Wed April 22

Pitbull leaves “Calle Ocho” and brings his dose of Cuban swagger and Miami (inexhaustible) energy to NYC for a special event at S.O.B.s mañana. He’s invited Queens sisters Nina Sky to join the party. We hope he’ll leave us a little sunshine to brighten up this week’s thundery forecast.

B-Real Blazes SOBs

On a recent Wednesday night B-Real, with the help of Nipsey Hussle and K’NAAN, played to a sold out crowd at the Paul Rosenberg-hosted Hot 97 Who’s Next Series.
Cali’s own Nipsey Hussle set things off with the West Coast inspired “Hussle in the House,” while the Canadian foursome of KeysNKrates introduced their new Electro Hip-Hop resonance, breaking down the walls with live instrumental renditions of A Tribe Called Quest’s “Award Tour” and Kanye West’s “Flashing Lights.”

Slaughter House Concert Recap
Hip-Hop super group Slaughterhouse recently came together for their first live performance at S.O.B’s. For those who are unfamiliar, Slaughterhouse is Joe Buddens, Joell Ortiz, Royce 5′ 9″ and Crooked I coming together, strictly for the love of Hip-Hop and to see who can outshine who.
So far, all the songs they’ve put out as a collective, consist of each member ‘going in’ on the beat, punchline after punchline, sparing no time for gimmicks or catchy hooks. Although they have released only two or three records, the energy is reminiscent of the “good ol days” when emcees would collaborate with each other on the strength of how nice you were, not to increase album sales.
