New Music: Kanye West, Santogold and Lykke Li

Kanye West, Santogold (pictured) and Lykke Li do their thing over a dreamscape-like backdrop on “Gifted,” the first leak off the N.A.S.A. album, The Spirit of Apollo.

The 2008 MtvU Woodie Awards

MtvU’s Woodie Awards, airing Wednesday, is the awards show known for honoring indie acts and artists who constantly push the envelope creatively. These names might not sound familiar to you but they are quickly amassing a huge fan base in their respective scenes. Others on this list have been in the game for a while and some of their biggest fans might even include your favorite singer or rapper, meaning they are influencing the music you listen to.
So, when The Source hit these artists up on the red carpet, we had to know, “What are you doing to push Hip-Hop (and music in general) forward?”

Live Blogging The mtvU Woodies

The Source is in the house right now for the mtvU Woodie Awards - the awards show that celebrates the music voted best by college students.
This year over 5 million college students voted for their favorite artists. The night will include performances from the Cool Kids, Asher Roth and Santi (formerly Santogold). Will be blogging live about those performances and other highlights.

10:17 - And that ladies and gents is a wrap. No, Hip-Hop didn’t win any big awards but we represented to the fullest!
10:15 - I think is the last song of the night… maybe that’s why all the guys in the press box behind me are liquored-up - uh-oh, our intern is hanging back there!
10:06 - I think it was Zoe Kravitz who just introduced Vampire Weekend and Chromeo. She said they would “rock your f—ing socks off!” She had a hat. Yep… pretty sure that was Zoe.
