Happy Birthday, Mr. President

Many important things happened in 1961. Motown Records signed The Supremes and the Temptations, founders of the Black Panther Party; Huey Newton and Bobby Seale met, and on August 4th, our 44th and first African-American President Barack Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. Today Barack is spending the actual day of his birthday with the Senate and Joe Biden; he spent the weekend celebrating with his friends and family.
As a present to himself and friends, President Obama went bowling at Camp David and finished with 144. A huge upgrade from his bowling back in the Pennsylvania Democratic primary during a campaign stop, a sad 37, which led to much mockery and grief from the media.

Obama: ‘Our Kids Can’t Aspire To Be Lil’ Wayne or LeBron
Last night (July 16) President Obama added another highlight to his reel of landmark speeches. The President spoke to the NAACP about topics of education and personal responsibility at the organization’s 100th anniversary celebration. In the speech, Obama stated, “they might think they’ve got a pretty good jump shot or a pretty good flow, but our kids can’t all aspire to be the next LeBron or Lil Wayne. I want them aspiring to be scientists and engineers, doctors and teachers, not just ballers and rappers,” The President said. “I want them aspiring to be a Supreme Court Justice. I want them aspiring to be President of the United States. So, yes, government must be a force for opportunity. Yes, government must be a force for equality. But ultimately, if we are to be true to our past, then we also have to seize our own destiny, each and every day.”
Hit the jump to watch the entire speech.

Obama In Africa
ACCRA, Ghana (AP) — President Barack Obama said his visit to Ghana on Saturday was designed to illustrate that “Africa is not separate from world affairs.”
Obama said events in Africa do not lose their effects at the continent’s borders and said Africa is a fully integrated part of the global economy.
“What happens here has an impact everywhere,” Obama said during a meeting with Ghanaian President John Atta Mills.
Obama scheduled a 21-hour visit to the West African nation to highlight that country’s democratic tradition and engagement with the West. During his first visit to sub-Saharan Africa since taking office, Obama sought to lift up the continent of his ancestors — while keeping its emotions in check.

N.Korea Threatens United States
SEOUL, South Korea – North Korea threatened Wednesday to wipe the United States off the map as Washington and its allies watched for signs the regime will launch a series of missiles in the coming days.
Off China’s coast, a U.S. destroyer was tailing a North Korean ship suspected of transporting illicit weapons to Myanmar in what could be the first test of U.N. sanctions passed to punish the nation for an underground nuclear test last month.
