Obama claims ‘New Beginning For GM’ After Bankruptcy
After years of losses, the troubled car manufacturer is forced into bankruptcy. GM is set to close a dozen facilities and cut more than 20,000 jobs. General Motors filed for bankruptcy protection earlier today, a move that became inevitable after years of losses and market share declines capped by a dramatic plunge in sales in recent months. President Obama today announced that General Motors was entering bankruptcy protection, and that the federal government was giving it an additional $30 billion, making taxpayers a 60% owner of the auto giant. “Understand we’re making these investments not because I want to spend the American people’s tax dollars, but because I want to protect them. Instead of taking so much stock in GM, we could have simply offered the company more loans.”

Beam Me Up, Obama
President Barack Obama has chosen a retired Marine Corps general as NASA’s new administrator. Charles Bolden, who is also a former astronaut, will be the first African-American to lead NASA. Obama stated, “These talented individuals will help put NASA on course to boldly push the boundaries of science, aeronautics and exploration in the 21st century and ensure the long-term vibrancy of America’s space program.”

Happy 100th Barack!
Today marks the 100th day in office for President Barack Obama. So far, he’s signed 19 executive orders, 12 laws, put together a $787 billion economic stimulus plan, and picked a dog for the kids, all while brushing those GOP haters under the rug. On foreign policy, he’s kept his promises to wrap up the war in Iraq, increase troops in Afghanistan, and continue the procedure of shutting down Guantanamo Bay. With a national approval rating of 68%, President Obama is more popular now than he was before he was elected. Next on the president’s to-do list is tackling the housing market, the stock market, auto bailouts and unemployment. Congrats on the first 100 Mr. President, now get back to work!
