Murdoch Apologizes

News Corp. CEO and New York Post Chairman, Rupert Murdoch, issued an apology for the controversial chimp / stimulus bill cartoon published in the Post last week.
The comic, which depicted the author the stimulus bill as a chimpanzee killed by two police officers, was, according to the Post, intended to “mock an ineptly written federal stimulus bill.” However, the cartoon walked a narrow line between a reference to current news and the tired derogatory stereotyping of African Americans. The comic sparked protests and boycotts lead by figures like Spike Lee and Al Sharpton.
Murdoch wrote: “As the Chairman of the New York Post, I am ultimately responsible for what is printed in its pages. The buck stops with me.
Last week, we made a mistake. We ran a cartoon that offended many people. Today I want to personally apologize to any reader who felt offended, and even insulted.”
