Hip-Hop Odd Couples: Learning From Jay-Z and Oprah

We’re sure you’ve heard by now that Oprah kicked it with Jay-Z in the Marcy Projects in Brooklyn this past weekend. Reportedly, it will either be for O Magazine or for her show where Jay-Z would push his Blueprint 3 album to an audience he may have never reached before. Hip-Hop might also take it a lil easier on Ms. Winfrey who has previously been accused of being anti Hip-Hop by Ice Cube, 50 Cent and others. It seems like a mutually beneficial arrangement.
This got us to thinking about other odd-couples we’d want to see hook up. We think these parings could teach each other a thing or two…

Kim Stays Hustling
As you know, we have long-been staunch supporters of Lil Kim. And every week while she was repping Hip-Hop big-time on Dancing With The Stars, we encouraged you to get out and vote on her behalf and she and you did the damn thing. Each week she got better and better to the surprise of many. Yet finally in week 9, Miss Kim was voted off the show.
But it ain’t over. She’s back up and proving that you just can’t knock Brooklyn’s first lady. Enter Lil Kim’s tell-all book via St. Martin’s Press, The Price of Loyalty, about her experience in the Pen. When spoke to Kim about it a few days ago, she explained that the book will “not be about glamorizing” her experience, but much more than that.
“It’s mainly about my stint in prison. It’s a motivating story for women who are in prison, who might have been going through the same thing that I was growing through, or for somebody who has been through the same situation. You know, the price of loyalty is a big price to pay, when you’re dealing with a situation like that. I know there’s a lot of loyal people out there and you know, I was loyal to a fault. And I know there’s a lot of people out there like that, too. But maybe reading about my situation might help somebody before they get into that situation.
I met a lot of people when I was in prison, that I can consider my friends because we went through a lot. When you’re in prison, you go through a lot and you go through it more with the people inside than the friends that are on the street. So this [book] is about their stories and my stories combined, and its going to be informative.”

Download LiL’ Kim

With her new label, Brookland Entertainment, Lil’ Kim has released the first video for ‘Download’, the first single from her upcoming album. The track features Charlie Wilson and an animated version of T-Pain. Sources say Pain was involved in a golf car accident and could not attend the video shooting; but look out for cameos from Lisa Raye and Lil’ B as well as Kim’s ‘Dancing with the Stars’ partner Derek Hough. The Queen Bee is sure to keep the streets buzzing while she eases off the dance floor and back into the music game.

Lil Kim Joins Dancing With The Stars

Lil Kim has been known for a few signature moves throughout her career but has never been one to lean towards super-choreographed videos and performances. However, the outspoken rapper will be one of 13 contestants competing in the upcoming season of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars.
David Alan Grier, Steve-O from Jackass, and NFL Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor will also compete.
