The Summit: JD and Bow Wow

After several years of working independently of one another, which both men readily attribute to industry hype, artist posturing and the necessary evil of growth, Bow Wow and Jermaine Dupri return to the biz as a unified front ready to prove yet again (and whether you like it or not) you just can’t knock their hustle.
It was March 8, 1991, when the classic film New Jack City was released. Set in Harlem at the peak of the ‘80s crack explosion and starring Wesley Snipes, Allen Payne and Ice-T, the story unravels the rise and fall of a notorious (fictitious) drug kingpin named Nino Brown and his Cash Money Brothers crew. But what’s most interesting, and its greatest gift to urban cinema besides its soundtrack, may be its point of view. Allowing onlookers to not only understand the sophisticated movement and the calculated muscle that was necessary for the takeover of The Carter, a residential building used as the CMB’s base for pushing weight, the film also provides an aerial view of the dynamic inner-workings of the crew members—good and bad—from the personality clashes to the shifting roles and the manner in which they manifested their success; a blueprint to which many of today’s urban record labels have built their foundation.
