Apple Reaches 1 Billion Downloads!

Soulja Boy loves to refer to himself as the king of the internet downloads. But, the young entrepreneur has a long way to go if he’s going to be mentioned in the same sentence with the Goliaths over at Apple. The computer/gadgets company just surpassed their 1 Billionth download for iPhone and iPod Touch applications, all in less than a year. 13-year-old Connor Mulcahey of Weston, Conn., received a hefty reward for the billionth download. The young down-loader snagged a MacBook Pro, $10,000 iTunes gift card, an iPod touch, and a Time Capsule backup device. On an average, Apple registers 5.55 million apps per day and has added 73 million downloads since the 1 billion mark.

iTunes Prices Increase
Effective April 7th, Apple’s iTunes increased the price of hit singles and in-demand tracks to $1.29. Along with the price increase comes a new “variable pricing method” which allows record companies to price songs at $1.29, 99¢ or 69¢. The new pricing will allow label executives to offer package downloads of songs that might “entice consumers to spend more on music.” The price change is most visible with songs in the Top 100 charts.

Atlantic Records is the first major label to sale more than half of their products digitally. These new sales numbers reflect consumers’ growing preference for digital music.
Digital product sales include mp3s sold on iTunes and similar digital music outlets as well as ringtones.
Atlantic Records is home to rappers T.I., Plies and B.o.B.
