Ice Cube: Taking it to T.V.
With the success of Tyler Perry’s position on TBS with Meet The Browns and House of Payne, Ice Cube is following suit. Being sure not to miss out on any of the action, Ice Cube is turning his millions dollar success film series ‘Are We There Yet?” into a sitcom set to debut on TBS June 2010.
Although Cube is not set to be a permanent player within the show, they were able to snag Everybody Loves Chris’ Terry Crew to play the father within the sitcom version of the big earner ‘Are We There Yet’.
“Terry Crews is the perfect person to replace me as Nick,” per Ice Cube in a recent statement. “His physical comedy is undeniable… We are dedicated to creating a new template for family comedy.”
Debmar-Mercury will claim the position as distributor of the TV show, as it also takes care of Tyler Perry’s gems, The Browns, and House of Payne.
The move simply seems obvious considering the success of the movies while following Perry’s full-proof blue print for television success. TBS, sharing the success of Perry was quick to pick up Cube’s idea instead of BET and USA and was able to secure a ten episode contract with Cube.
Ice Cube has ventured into television before, but this venture will be the first to spin off from his multi-million dollar making movie series. Ice Cube has seemed to establish himself as the million-dollar man, easy.
