Chi-Town’s Kanye Comes Home for a Cause
Kanye West recently held a concert in his hometown of Chicago, his first in over a year, to raise money for his Kanye West Foundation, an organization formed to help reduce drop out rates and fund local school music programs. Billed as the “Stay in School S.H.O.W (Students Helping Our World),” the concert was the latest held by KWF and Loop Dreams, an educational music program that “seeks to reengage young people within the school environment while using decidedly “non-school” approaches. Both KWF and the Loop Dreams program were co-founded by West and his mother, the late Dr. Donda West.
About 3000 Chicago public school students attended the session, where Kanye also gave words of to the crowd in regards to their education. The students were picked by KWF because of improved grades and/or attendance over the last quarter.

Kanye v.s. The Dropout Rate
College dropout turned Hip-Hop icon Kanye West says no to staggering dropout rates. It seems that the former Chicago State University student is gung ho about keeping kids in school. Don’t get it twisted, this is isn’t his first effort to keep school dreams alive. According to kanyewestfoundation.org, the mission of the Dr. Donda West Foundation founded by Kanye and his late mother, “is to help combat the severe dropout problem in schools across the United States by partnering with community organizations to provide underserved youth access to music production programs that will enable them to unleash their creative ability and reach their full potential.”
Enter the 2nd “Stay in School” benefit concert produced by the Kanye West Foundation. The special event, to be presented by FUSE TV and aired later this summer, will take place at the Chicago Theatre on Thursday, June 11th. This concert will also be first major event produced by the organization since the passing of Kanye’s mother Donda West, and his first performance in Chicago since last year.
