Beneath The Surface: Charles Hamilton

Haunted soul? Mad genius? Suicidal artist? When it comes to Interscope artist Charles Hamilton, it all depends on what day it is, and what song is on.
There’s something about the Fredrick Douglas Academy in Harlem that seems just a little strange. On the surface, there’s nothing unusual about the 106 & Park-aged mob that move up and down the hallways. The energy and constant buzz generated by the human hive fills the air, creating a pulse that brings the building to life, as the uniformed faces blur in a rush quite consistent with beating the bell. The unusual part is the last bell probably rang about two hours ago, but at five in the evening, the place looks like it’s closer to lunchtime. From the smiles and laughs carried by the crowd, one would think that these kids are either happy to be in the world’s largest detention class, or that some of them would rather be in school than at home.

Hamilton’s Damage Control

“To the thirsty ass bloggers, this is NOT beef…” The words of Charles Hamilton in a recent blog post rectifying the whole Soulja Boy situation that even we admit, though we participated in the instigation just a lil, was blown a bit out of proportion.
Hamilton continues: “He would even tell you that. He aint built to have BEEF. If he got goons, what the f*ck do you think I have? I’m from Harlem. My worst enemies would ride for me as long as I shout em out in a verse. If anything, two totally different artist with two hilariously different viewpoints are in the same position. Who makes more sense? Its not about who deserves it, because those that work for what they got, deserve what they got. And he worked. But so did I. And so do I.”
Well there we have it, it’s not beef.

Sonic Vs. Soldier
The exchange between Soulja Boy and Charles Hamilton continues.
Props to Soulja Boy for taking the semi-responsible route and not sending “goons to Hamilton’s Mama’s house,” But then again… was that an option he really explored?
It all started when Charles Hamilton said he hated being compared to Soulja Boy whose “marketing ploy” made his Sonic the Hedgehog lifestyle seem like a joke. Err?
Maybe the videos can clear things up. See what Charles Hamilton had to say about Soulja Boy (comments at 5:15 mark)
