Michael Jackson Storms Back Onto Charts
The King of Pop posthumously reclaimed his crown at the top of the charts in record breaking fashion.
Michael Jackson set a record with this being the first time a cataloged title to sell more than a current release in a week, and he did it three times. Thriller, The Essential Michael Jackson, and Number Ones each sold over 100,000 copies putting them in the top three spots for this week. It should also be noted that sales week ended on June 28th and Michael had passed on June 25th, with the sales spiking in a three-day period. Number Ones sold the most this week with 108,000 copies followed by Essential with 102,000 and Thriller with 101,000.

Shady Stays On Top
In some Eminem news which aren’t related to butt cheeks, Slim Shady closes in on the platinum mark by selling 211,000 more units this week and staying number one on the Billboard charts. Em’ beat out Green Day, Lady GaGa, Wisin Y Yandel, and Hannah Montana this week to claim the top spot. Relapse has now sold approximately 833,000 copies in two weeks.

The Billboard BAWSE
A correctional officer past, beefs with 50 Cent, and baby mama drama couldn’t derail Rick Ross from snatching Billboard’s number one spot for his latest release, “Deeper Than Rap.” Ross beat out Miley Cyrus’ “Hannah Montana : The Movie Soundtrack,” and Asher Roth’s “Asleep in the Bread Aisle” which came in at #2 and #5 respectively. Ross sold over 158,000 units in his first week and is his third time in his career with “Trilla” in 2008 and “Port Of Miami” in 2006.
On a sidenote, one can’t help but imagine what Asher’s “nappy headed ho” Twitter flub had contributed to his first week numbers. “Asleep In The Bread Aisle,” moved 65,000 units in its first week.
