Janet Puts On For Her Brother, Michael
The TRUE highlight of last night’s VMAs is when MTV put on an absolutely classy tribute to the King of Pop Michael Jackson preceded by a speech from the one and only Madonna. A full on dance tribute to Jackson’s greatest video highlights along with the return of Janet Jackson to the VMA stage left every ass off their seats and not a dry eye in the house. Man Charged with Threatening to Kill Jay-Z, Beyonce and Jerome Bettis
Leon Desmond Barrett of Detroit, MI has been charged with threatening to kill rapper Jay-Z, his wife, R&B star Beyonce and football player Jerome Bettis. In a complaint filed yesterday (August 5), Barrett allegedly sent dozens of threatening letters between December 2006 and April 2009, some of which threatened bodily harm against the three celebs.

Hip-Hop and R&B Dominate the VMAs…Again
It is clear that Hip-Hop has influenced just about every aspect of popular culture. Master P references in Snickers ads, rapping grannies to sell cell phones, the works. That being said, it only makes sense that Hip-Hop dominate award shows as well, which it has been doing in recent years, and this years MTV Video Music Awards are no exception. With artists like Kanye West and Eminem going head-to-head not only in main categories such as Male Video, but technical ones such as Special Effects, the love that “pop” audiences have for Hip-Hop is incredible. And while neither one of them are rappers themselves, anyone who knows Lady Gaga and Beyonce’s music knows Hip-Hop is a heavy influence for both artists, and both of them have been nominated 9 times, the most nominations for any artist this year.
