Jay-Z was a special invited guest of superstar third baseman, Alex Rodriguez, today at the ticker tape parade to celebrate the 27th World Series Championship of the New York Yankees. It wouldn’t be right if he didn’t touch that stage also, so check out this video of Jay-Z performing on the steps of City Hall with Bridget Kelly.

Last night the crew went down to a special screening of Before I Self Destruct, 50 Cent’s new film, which will come as a companion to his new album of the same name. The 90 minute tale, which was written and directed by Curtis “50″ Jackson, touched on the lives of one struggling family, made up of the former bballer-turned-hitman Clarence Jenkins (played by 50), his younger brother who’s a genius and their single-working mother. Of course, tragedy hits and Clarence must fend for the family, and his way of handling it, is not the most positive.

In his new profession, Clarence does become a hero of sorts, with enough bread to stack and to stunt. Without blowing the whole movie (pause), the premise isn’t anything you haven’t seen before in urban cinema. It’s a classic must-get-out-of-hood by any means necessary type of flick, with a few comedic snippets like the Rainman type of tag-teaming we see between 50 and the kid who’s plays his younger brother in the film. The video vixens brighten up the shots taken in a real hood, as opposed to set, but can they act is another question altogether. Lloyd Banks makes a great cameo and Clifton Powell plays the same character he always plays.

50 was in the building and shared a few words before the film. Overall, 50’s BISD is definitely worth watching on DVD when you cop 50’s new album, but no need to rush to the limited screenings. We just think the film would have done better on the big screen had HD cameras been used for better quality.

New York showed out today along Broadway to celebrate the Yankees’ 27th Major League Baseball World Championship win. Over two million fans donned in Yankees paraphernalia, crowded the streets of lower Manhattan (right in front of The Source offices) in spite of the cold, while those in buildings stoop atop nearby ledges to watch the parade honoring the Bronx Bombers. Forget the confetti, paper—full sheets, shredded, to paper towels, toilet paper and printer paper— was in abundance, falling from the sky as the floats that carried players from the team and their families, executives, city officials, local high school bands, as well as a few notables.

Roc signs were in the air when Jay-Z made his second appearance in support of the Yankees, riding along with Alex “A-Rod” Rodriguez. The crowd went bananas when Derek Jeter’s float rolled through, while they chanted “MVP” for Hideki Matsui. Johnny Damon, Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte and CC Sabathia also got mad love as they went by. Today was definitely another historical and proud moment for New Yorkers everywhere.

Twelve people are dead and other 31 were wounded in a mass shooting at Fort Hood, which is one of the largest military complexes in the world, in Texas on Thursday. One of the shooters has been identified as Malik Nadal Hasan, who was an Army mental health professional, has been identified as one of the shooters involved in the Fort Hood massacre.
