Unsigned Hype: Okwerdz

The ability to stand face-to-face and go toe-to-toe with an opponent while playing to the audience is a skill that’s hard to master. Yet the battle MC’s weakness is often the inability to make good songs. Thankfully, Stockton, CA’s Okwerdz doesn’t have that problem. A certified beast with wins in multiple battle tournaments, Ok is also something of a hit-maker, lacing mainstream melodies with the same razor sharp wit that he uses to dissect foes on the battle field, as he does on the hyphy anthem “Handicap”: “My car is lousy/I tried to ghost ride the whip but it just drove off without me/So I hop up in that yellow ride/With the front speakers, dumb tweakers, we hella tight/When a chick gives you dirty looks while they get dummy/That’s not a thizz face, you just ugly!” With his weight up in both realms, it may be a matter of time before his battles are on Billboard.

Unsigned Hype: LMFAO
