N.E.R.D. And Nas

A few of us at The Source took some time to hit up the Smirroff Experience party with N.E.R.D and Nas at Capitale in lower Manhattan last Tuesday. There was huge turnout including Nas’s wife Kelis and model Tyson Beckford who, after a few drinks, kept sticking his tongue out at everyone - weird right?
Nas, N.E.R.D, and Grandmaster Flash on the turntables got the crowd hyped thus making it an awesome night.

Diesel XXX Live On Stage

Diesel took over Brooklyn’s Pier 3 in celebration of it’s 30th Anniversary last night. Themed Diesel XXX The Rock and Roll Circus, the event saw a couple of heavyweights take the stage in front of thousands of invited tastemakers. M.I.A. was there, and there was definitely more to her than usual.
When the very preggers M.I.A. first stepped out to perform “Swagger Like Us,” the crowd was a bit mum. Everyone was bugging out at how far along she was in her pregnancy and that the rumors were in fact true.

Wale Rocks The Crowd

Interscope recording artist, Wale, the pride of D.C., headlined SUNY-Purchase College’s Fall Fest last week and The Source was in the house to take it all in. Purchase’s annual festival, which is usually reserved for indie rock acts, took a left turn this year when it chose Wale as it’s headliner.
Despite the predominately rock crowd, complete with stage diving, crowd surfing, and mosh pits, Wale ripped the stage. The up-and-coming emcee, who’s collaborated with M.I.A. and Jay-Z for the “Boyz” remix, sent the crowd into a frenzy with renditions of “The Baltimore Club Slam”, “W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E.”, and “Nike Boots.”
More images and and the “W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E.” video after the jump.

Return of the Boom Bap

What happens when you take two legendary Hip-Hop artists, two crooners from the late ’80s, a few special appearances by heads people know but have never seen live, and throw them all on stage into a jampacked little arena named Madison Square Garden?

Gym Class Heroes Takeover

Last night we hooked up with Gym Class Heroes at their special live performance in New York City at the South Street Seaport. The LG sponsored event also featured a battle of the bands– LG’s music initiative where one lucky band gets 15 grand towards creating, finishing or promoting their work. And of course, Travie and the boys rocked the spot as headliners, doing about 3-4 songs from their previously released catalog and a couple of joints from the new album which drops next Tuesday.
In dope boy fresh style, Travie leaked that after this week’s promo, the crew will be going on tour shortly with The Roots and Estelle. Can we say fiyah?

Usher’s Fifteen One Night Stands

Usher will be spending fifteen nights with nothing but women. The singer, whose crotch grinding moves have won him as many female fans as his music, has announced a women-only tour. The “One Night Stand” tour will take Usher to fifteen different cities where he will be sure to show off his body because, as he says, “The ladies like to see that masculine build.”
Usher says his most recent album was very intimate so, “what better way to get up close and personal than to make it all women?”
