Music Sales Keep on Slippin’

2008 was a bad year for the economy. As consumer confidence and spending fell, so did virtually every industry in the country. Naturally, this spelled bad news for the already ailing music industry. Nielson Co. reported total album sales for 2008 fell 14%.
Some good news came in the form of digital music. Single tracks sold via online retailers such as iTunes, Rhapsody, and Amazon topped 1 billion, a 27 percent gain from the 844.2 million in 07. Digital Album sales also saw a boost in sales as the total number of digital albums sold jumped from 50 million in 07 to 65.8 last year.

It’s So Hard To Say Goodbye To ‘08

Hip-Hop said goodbye to many things this year. Some we were sad to see go and others - not so much.
5. Rap City - This BET original, on air for nineteen years, may have fallen off over the last couple of years, but it remains one of the most popular Hip-Hop shows ever.
4. The Tell-All - When Karrine Steffans first book hit shelves, Hip-Hop gossip fiends couldn’t get enough. But was anyone really checking for this year’s Hiding In Hip-Hop? Maybe if we got some actually names or identifying details… but who wants an entire book of blind items?! Miss Jones’ tell-all, also came and went relatively unnoticed.

Bassman75 Is International Wit It

Picture this, United States Hip-Hop marries overseas Hip-Hop and produces a son, and they call Bassman75. Born in Luanda, the southern country Africa of Angola and fluent in six, yes six, different languages. If that weren’t enough, Bassman, the youngest son of eight brothers and two sisters, raised by a preacher, raps in four of those languages!
TheSource.com recently caught up with the ethical rapper/producer/songwriter/African gospel chorale base vocalist to become acquainted with him and his upcoming project.
Check out Bassman’s “Jamaican Grind” and more with Bassman after the jump.

We Want Our YouTube

After failing to reach an agreement with the internet video giant YouTube, Warner Music Group will be blocking all of their artists’ music videos from the website.
This means you now have just a couple options for checking out videos from artists like Plies and Scarface, both signed to labels under the Warner umbrella. Since BET’s Rap City replacement, The Deal, has been moved to the wee hours of the morning, your best bet is now the artists’ own sites and MySpace pages or waiting until Sunday for the Sucker Free Countdown. Damn.
