Plaxico Burress’ Giant Mess

The troubles continue for Giants receiver Plaxico Burress who accidentally shot himself in the thigh Friday night (December 28) at the Latin Quarter nightclub in New York City.
Burress is charged with two felonies and could face the mandatory minimum sentence of 3 ½ years for each of two illegal firearms found in his possession as well as a possible suspension from the NFL.
As if the pain and embarrassment of shooting one’s self wasn’t enough, the Giants are also considering putting Burress on the non-football injury reserve list for the rest of the season, as opposed to the two week absence he is currently on, which could result in his pay being docked.

Roy Jones suffered an embarrassing loss Saturday night. What looked like it would shape up to be a great fight in the first round, quickly became a joke with Welsh boxer Joe Calzaghe taunting Jones in between blows.
A lot of folks are blaming the loss on Jones age - he’s almost 40. But, the undefeated Calzaghe is just three years younger.

Basketball coaching legend, Don Haskins, passed away on September 7th, exactly a year the 1966 Texas Western team he coached was enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. He was 78.
In the game of basketball, there have been many people who have transcended the sport. Athletes in the past have been advocates, martyrs, champions, and heroes. However, not many basketball coaches have touched the game the way Don Haskins did.

The Brady Effect

Superstar athletes are the type of players who can single-handedly affect the game, not only on the field, but also away from it. Reebok Won’t Say Hola To “Ocho Cinco”

When the player formerly known as Chad Johnson changed his name to Chad Ocho Cinco, we all knew it was so he could put the new surname (Spanish for 8-5, his jersey number is 85) on his Bengals’ uniform. Now, it looks like there is a bit of a snag in his plan.
The NFL said in a statement, “issues remain to be resolved before Ocho Cinco will be permitted to wear his new surname on his jersey.” Among those issues: jersey sales. Reebok sells Ocho Cinco’s NFL jersey and a financial deal may have to be worked out before Johnson jerseys are replaced with Ocho Cinco jerseys.

Serena Wins Sister Act

“I love her so much. She’s my best friend,” Serena Williams said of her sister. But those feelings didn’t get in the way of Serena beating Venus last night, in a victory for baby sisters everywhere.
Venus made several mistakes last night in the Williams sisters’ meeting at the US Open. “I try not to look at her because I might start feeling bad,” Serena said.
Venus admitted she didn’t bring her A game. “I’m a very good closer,” she said. “I’ve never had a match like that in my life. I guess there’s always a first. She just played a little better.”
