The Stuntin’ Tax

It just got a little more expensive to stunt in New York state.
Governor David Paterson is suggesting an additional five percent tax on all luxury goods over $20,000. The tax would apply to items like fur coats, jewelry and the Hermes Birkin bag.
You may be thinking, “who cares about tax on a $34,000 bag or a $25,000 watch?” Well, New York state residents keeping it extra flashy will also be hit. The governor also wants to end the tax exemption on clothing and shoes under $110.
