Quincy Jones and Clive Davis talk “This Is It”
This week, two Icons weighed in on the film “This Is It.” One Icon never worked with Jackson, and the other made his career. The Source Magazine caught up with both Clive Davis and Quincy Jones at two different events this week. On Wednesday, Clive gave a very special talk at NYU about the 35th Anniversary of Arista Records, which was sponsored by SoundCTRL, and last night Quincy Jones was being honored at the Third Annual Sunflower Children Benefit to support its SaveABaby initiative.
Quincy is still saddened by the loss of Michael Jackson. “Yes I just saw it, the premiere. We just did a three day show in Bermuda, and I saw it. I’m still torn up about that. It’s still surrealistic I can’t get my arms around it. I don’t know how to deal with it. It’s painful its like part of your soul you know Michael we did a lot of work together, and we’re going to do a show on CNN. Soledad O’brian asked me to do a 2 hour show to tell the real truth about all the music from “The Wiz” all the way through to “We are the World” everything.”
Clive Davis, on the other hand confessed that despite his expansive resume, he had never worked with Michael Jackson, professionally. He said that he primarily worked with Jermaine Jackson, but just being in the industry he had been in contact with Jackson on numerous occasions. Michael Jackson had been to his Grammy Party and they had talked on the phone. He told everyone that he really enjoyed “This is It,’ and that everyone should go see the film. In his opinion, this film proved that Michael was not deteriorating and a drug addict. He was on top of his game and poised to make a HUGE comeback.
