SINGERSROOM LIVE: Jayms Madison, Ju-Taun, K. Michelle & Hal Linton

The “My Music, My Style” Concert Series presented by Singersroom.com returned to Crash Mansion @ BLVD on Tuesday night. On the bill – Jayms Madison, Ju-Taun, K. Michelle (Jive), & Hal Linton (SRP/UniversalMotown). Sponsored by The Source, it showcased emerging young talents who have plans of taking the industry by storm.

First up was Ms. Madison. Introduced as “a true New Yorker with an eclectic sound”, the songstress took us through “Room Service” taught us the “Definition of Love”, introduced us to her “Hot Spot” and got a little dark with “Vampires”. Not only does she sing - she has written records for Chrisette Michelle and Taylor Dean, and has upcoming projects with Fantasia and Mya.

Next up were the Jersey boys who go by the name of Ju-Taun. Jamie, Jake, Pete and Samoeun lined up in front of the mics and started to harmonize. From their smooth vocals to their even smoother choreography, these boys definitely had the ladies screaming their praises. Transitioning from one high note to the next, these guys brought vintage soul to the forefront as they sang Donny Hathaway’s “A Song For You”.

And then there was K. Michelle. Who knew such a big voice could come from such a small frame. A Southern diva signed to Jive Records, her songs exhibited a sort of pain and truth that could not be learned, but could only come from personal experiences. “Today Just Ain’t My Day” was one of those “truths”. “I got up and wrote down all the things that were wrong with me that day…that had me feeling like I should not have gotten out of bed”, Michelle said of the record. Also in her set was “Don’t Say Sorry”, “Self-Made Chick” and “Fakin’ It”, all songs that told stories from her perspective.

Last, but not least, was Hal Linton. Bringing on his own band, this Bajan rockstar seemed to blend soul, rock, R&B and everything in between to make this sound that you couldn’t quite put your finger on, but you could definitely lend your ear to. Starting out with a track that he accompanied with his guitar, Linton’s acoustic sound was quite comforting. He then went into a song by one of his greatest inspirations, Marvin Gaye (“What’s Going On”). Hal ended his set with a feel-good record full of horns and drums called “Lock My Heart Down”.
