Obama: ‘Our Kids Can’t Aspire To Be Lil’ Wayne or LeBron

Last night (July 16) President Obama added another highlight to his reel of landmark speeches. The President spoke to the NAACP about topics of education and personal responsibility at the organization’s 100th anniversary celebration. In the speech, Obama stated, “they might think they’ve got a pretty good jump shot or a pretty good flow, but our kids can’t all aspire to be the next LeBron or Lil Wayne. I want them aspiring to be scientists and engineers, doctors and teachers, not just ballers and rappers,” The President said. “I want them aspiring to be a Supreme Court Justice. I want them aspiring to be President of the United States. So, yes, government must be a force for opportunity. Yes, government must be a force for equality. But ultimately, if we are to be true to our past, then we also have to seize our own destiny, each and every day.”

action speak louder than words. when is the government going to stop spending billions on defense while spending thousands on education, specifically in the inner cities? There’s nothing left but jail, death, or a record deal. Either you slanging crack rocks or you gotta wicked jump shot.

No we need to stop telling our young people that all we can do is rap, play ball, sell dope, or wait on the government. We need to stoplimiting our selves to the foolish of the hood and entertainment.

WELL THIS COMING FROM A US ARMY SOLDIER OVER IN IRAQ! I HAVE TO AGREE WITH WHAT HE SAID, CAUSE I HAD NOTHING GROWING UP, POOR HOUSE, NO JOB, NO COLLEGE, SO IT WAS EITHER SELL DRUGZ , RAP, OR JOIN THE SERVICE. I DIDNT WANNA SELL DRUGS OR RAP, KNOWING THE FACT THAT I HAVE MOUTHS TOO FEED. SO LET GOD INFLUENCE THIS COUNTRY OF FREEDOM AND GIVE US THE STRENGTH TO BETTER OUR SELVES.
