Kimbo Starts From Scratch
Kimbo Slice is the most polarizing fighter in MMA. Rising to prominence as a YouTube sensation for beating grown men to a pulp in backyards, and for headlining the most watched mixed martial arts card in history for the now defunct, Elite XC, Kimbo has had a cult following for the better part of three years. However, hardcore MMA fans, UFC Fighters, and UFC President Dana White mocked Slice’s ability as a true fighter. White has called Slice everything under the sun from a “bum”, a “joke”, “not a real fighter,” and stated he would “get murdered if he fought in the UFC” and suggested that his lightweight champion, 155-pound B.J. Penn, would “annihilate” the 230-pound Slice.
Now Kimbo Slice has a chance to silence all his critics by competing on UFC’s “The Ultimate Fighter” on Spike TV.
The reality show which pits fighters to live in the same house, all competing for one contract with the top MMA promotion, the UFC. Slice holds a 3-1 professional record but hasn’t fought since Oct. 4, when he was knocked out by a jab from late replacement Seth Petruzelli, a light heavyweight, just 14 seconds into another fight broadcast on CBS. The plug was pulled on Elite XC, which reportedly lost millions of dollars, in the aftermath of the fight.
To add to the drama of the show, the designated coaches of the opposing teams on “The Ultimate Fighter” will be two former light heavyweight champions “Sugar” Rashad Evans and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. Can Kimbo climb the ranks and prove his doubters wrong? Will see, but in the mean time check out some of his work.
