TheSource.com D-Block Listening Session
Yonkers, NY, residency of the D-Block faction. For more than a decade Sheek Louch, Jadakiss and Styles P have laced the rap game with some of the grittiest rhymes and rigorous street bangers of our time. Their mixtape catalog is considered nothing short of legendary and their solo efforts have made them staples in Hip-Hop.
Proving strength lies in numbers, the Bronx-bred trio assembles the D-Block platoon for their debut—No Security. The Source steps into the stouthearted D-Block Studios for an exclusive listening session for their new compilation album and kicks it with the Silverback Guerilla, The Ghost, Al-Qaida and company.
“It’s Like That” is vintage L.O.X., as the threesome drop blazing verses on Pete Rock’s sweltering production. P takes on the role of lieutenant on “From the Block” and leads by example, while newcomer Bully lyrically strong-arms the competition with a mean 16. The self-titled “D-Block” invites members Snipe Life, Large Amount and Bucky to lick off a few shots, piercing hollow points into Vinnie Idol’s staggering bass line.
The album doesn’t become complaisant with ruff, rugged and raw content, as the tempo surprisingly transitions from do or die to party and bullsh*t. Lead single “Get That Paper” sets the mood right with a tumultuously charming appeal that’ll have the ladies playing favorites amongst The LOX. Carrying over the Dirty South buzz from Jada’s “Who’s Real,” D-Block shows their southern hospitality by welcoming back OJ Da Juice Man into the mix on “Show’ Em”. The party continues with the up-tempo “Get Ya Bounce On” and the catchy “Round and Round,” illustrating the faction’s party side.
No Security is set to surprise even the biggest D-Block aficionados. Production is tackled by a number of on-the-come-up beat makers, who show the same promise as D-Block affiliate Vinnie Idol. Styles goes into war mode on his numerous appearances and Bully shines as the group’s biggest attraction. Other guest appearances we can look forward to include Beanie Siegel, Red Café and many others.
No Security hits stores on June 9th. Stay tuned for TheSource.com’s solo interviews with The LOX, as they discuss the group’s latest developments and solo ventures.
