Dear Mike, I wish to express my late condolences to you for your daughter's death. I am sure I have never felt the pain in life you have suffered with this experience. In truth, my reason for sending you this message has to do with your new biographical movie, and I have no idea where else to contact you so I hope you get this message. I am a 57 year old man who has watched boxing since before TV (I listened to the Cassius Clay (Muhammed Ali) vs Ingmar Johanson fight on the radio. Ali was my hero for all the years he fought and I had deep respect for his choice about the Vietnam war. We all know his great story. When you came aboard the fight scene years later, I looked at you as if you were a beast. I divided fighters into two main camps: Those who used there brawn and were "stupid" and often "bad" people, and those who fought "intelligently" and were often "good" people. But I did not see things in purely black & white terms. For instance, I loved Larry Holmes career as I watched it from beginning to end. He wanted to be a great fighter and he was, but he got tripped up a lot by witty and wicked commentators who made him out to look like a fool and exploited his feelings of pride with wise cracks and poor humor that served their interests to publically humiliate him. (I.E. Howard Cosell). I suppose I compared you to Joe Frasier, who being an adversary of Muhammed Ali, I felt compelled to demonize. One can compare the demonization to what people often tend to do in football and baseball, that is, hate the opposing team (for fun) or you can look at it as more personal and meaningful. Afterall, we are looking at one human being instead of a whole team. I suppose I hated you for all the shit that was publicized, like the "rape" charge and the biting the ear of Hollyfield, but I always pegged you as a beast that needed to be jailed, kicked out of boxing for good, and publically mocked and villified. After seeing the documentary about you.....I have changed my perception and vision of you. I understand you now....(IF the film is truth)....I can see you.....I wish I could have seen you then....All those years of ignorance....I am so glad you have revealed yourself: the bad and the good. I see you MIke. I represent the thousands of fight fans out there who have never seen you before now. Some will agree with me...many will not...But I have seen not only what you have said in private before a camera. I have seen what you have said publically in front of millions of viewers. I saw you wipe the face of Lennox Lewis and I have seen you give luck to a journeymen in the fighting world who has just triumped over you. From that, I see your heart has changed to something good and for this change, for your hard experience, for your new wisdom, my heart goes out to you. God bless you Mike Tyson.
