Kanye v.s. The Dropout Rate

College dropout turned Hip-Hop icon Kanye West says no to staggering dropout rates. It seems that the former Chicago State University student is gung ho about keeping kids in school. Don’t get it twisted, this is isn’t his first effort to keep school dreams alive. According to kanyewestfoundation.org, the mission of the Dr. Donda West Foundation founded by Kanye and his late mother, “is to help combat the severe dropout problem in schools across the United States by partnering with community organizations to provide underserved youth access to music production programs that will enable them to unleash their creative ability and reach their full potential.”

Enter the 2nd “Stay in School” benefit concert produced by the Kanye West Foundation. The special event, to be presented by FUSE TV and aired later this summer, will take place at the Chicago Theatre on Thursday, June 11th. This concert will also be first major event produced by the organization since the passing of Kanye’s mother Donda West, and his first performance in Chicago since last year.

Be sure to cop your tickets on sale Thursday, May 21st, when they go on sale. Tickets start at $49.50 to $500 for the VIP Reception and can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com

I am happy Kanye is giving back to the youth, because the youth are the future.

Kanye West doesn’t actually read and takes pride in being non-literary. “Sometimes people write novels and they just be so wordy and so self-absorbed,” West said. “I am not a fan of books. I would never want a book’s autograph. I am a proud non-reader of books. I like to get information from doing stuff like actually talking to people and living real life.” - Rollingstone.com

How successful are children going to be in school if they don’t read? In Eurocentric American schools that often teach black youth nothing regarding their own history, where will they get that information from if they don’t read? What will prevent them from becoming indoctrinated…man I think I’m going to have to blog about this.
