Nas’ show tonight at Hunter College in NYC will be the highlight of many student’s semester, but may also be a bittersweet moment for the legendary MC.  A spokesperson for Kelis confirmed that divorce papers were filed around 3:45pm April 30th on Mrs.  Jones behalf.

“We request the media to respect her privacy at this very difficult time” a representative for Kelis said in a statement.

A representative has denied rumors that the marriage is ending due to infedelity and verbal abuse.

The spilt comes 7 years after their initial meeting at an MTV Video Music Awards after party thrown by Sean “Diddy” Combs, and only 4 years after their marriage which took place in Atlanta back in 2005.

Despite numerous collaborations and public reassurance of their commitment, rumors of a split began surfacing in March of 2008.

News of the divorce is dropping while the couple is expecting their first child together.  Kelis is 7 months pregnant with a son.
