Escobar and The Chocolate Boy Wonder Reunite
It’s been long overdue, 15 years to say the least, but Nasty Nas and the “Soul Survivor” Pete Rock are reuniting to work on new material. Nas first linked up with the lengendary producer on his 5-mic classic Illmatic, which spawned the Pete Rock smash “The World is Yours”, “One Love” and “It Aint Hard To Tell”.
Pete discussed the latest development recently, “I got a call from [Nas] one day. I was very excited when I saw that he called. I called him back and we conversed a bit, through the text, got him on the phone and we kicked it…I sent music to him. And I’ll just continue to send him music, you know? Whatever he likes, he’ll probably put to the side. But, I’m real excited about working with him.”
When asked why he hadn’t linked up with the Queens rapper since Illmatic, Pete responded, “I think it was a lot of situations [that caused the break off], but you know, but right now, I don’t give a damn. That was the past. You know, I always wanted to get down to the bottom of it, to see what the problem was,”
Pete’s been a busy beatmaker, recently contributing work for Meth and Red’s Blackout 2! and working with his new artists on his relaunched Soul Brother Recordings label. Between the collaborative Damian Marley project and summer tour, Esco got a busy schedule ahead of him.
