Jets Snatch Sanchez

Since the New York Jets lost future Hall of Famer Brett Favre to retirement, the Jets has had questions surrounding their quarterback situation. With a brand new stadium, a talented young team and no one to lead them, the Jets seem to have found their man.

Mark Sanchez, from the University of Southern California, was selected with the fifth pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. The Jets traded up twelve spots with the Cleveland Browns to grab the name that has been on every pro teams radar besides the Detroit Lions, who had the number one pick.

Although Sanchez had already led the USC Trojans to a Rose Bowl victory and threw for 3,965 yards and 41 touchdowns, he really wowed NFL executives at the Scouting Combine with his powerful and accurate arm. Aside from his physical gifts, his magnetic personality makes him a general manager’s dream and even had teams with capable starting quarterback’s, ready to make moves to draft the 22-year-old kid from Mission Viejo High School. People even believed that Sanchez had more talent than the number one pick, Matthew Stafford from Georgia.

Once the announcement was made in Radio City Music Hall in New York City, the Jets heavy crowd was elated to hear about the selection of their new franchise player, almost as excited as Sanchez was.

“The kind of pressure, you expect that,” Sanchez said to ESPN. “As a quarterback, that’s what you signed up for. I learned how to compete and deal with pressure at ‘SC and in a large media market in Los Angeles and things are only going to bigger and better.”
