Drake and The Cool Kids Shock SUNY

The Source was in the house to take in the annual weekend festival known as Culture Shock up at SUNY - Purchase College. Usually a indie-rock themed event, coordinator Jeff Levin featured two hip-hop headliners in Drake and The Cool Kids.

Friday night, hot off of taking over the New York City airwaves with stops to Hot 97 and Power 105.1, Drake hit up the Westchester school for the first stop of his first solo college tour. The rapper/crooner, whose been on the lips of everyone in hip-hop after touring with Lil’ Wayne and dropping the acclaimed mixtape “So Far Gone”, had the crowd at a fever pitch as he entered the stage to a rendition of “Congratulations.” He performed a half hour set which included joints like “Uptown,” “Successful,” “Brand New,” and “Best I Ever Had.” Drizzy Drake Rogers also paid homage to his mentor Lil’ Wayne by performing some of his standout tracks like “A Millie,” “Pop Bottles,” and “Money on My Mind.” Drake ended the night with a performance of the radio killer, “Every Girl.”

The next night, The Cool Kids were on deck to end the weekend. The duo from Illinois, Mikey Rocks and Chuck Inglish, came out to their trademark bass-heavy tracks. Mikey and Chuck performed joints from their EP “The Bake Sale,” such as “Black Mags,” “Mikey Rocks,” “88,” and “Gold and A Pager.” They also debuted a new Don Cannon-produced banger called “Champions.” The strange part of the night came when an overzealous college student kept throwing cupcakes at Mikey. After being escorted from the event, the student’s girlfriend told Mikey and Chuck that they “were special weed cupcakes as gifts, but was two drunk to realize that throwing them at you guys was a bad idea.” To which Chuck responded, “Sorry dude, next time find a better way to give them to us cause we love bud! It’s like getting a birthday card and smaking some one in the face with it.”
