Women in Hip-Hop: Lady of Rage

The Lady of Rage proved she was ruff, rugged and raw as the first lady of Death Row Records. After noteworthy appearances on Dr. Dre’s The Chronic and Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle, Rage garnered a rep as a lyrical female MC and would soon release her hit single “Afro Puffs” from the Above the Rim soundtrack. She released her debut album Necessary Roughness in 1997 and have a reoccuring role as bully Coretta Cox on the Steve Harvey Show.

In 2008, she was honored, along with fellow female rap stars MC Lyte and Yo-Yo, as Hip-Hop Pioneers during the the 2008 BET Awards. Nowadays the lady still unleashes her rage on a number of mixtape appearances and is a member of the female supergroup F.E.M. (Females Earning Money), alongside Lady Luck, Amil and Babs from Making the Band.
