i agree with prod, you gotta take everything politics with a grain of salt. I voted for Obama right off the bat and not because im black, but because im a realest and know, despite anything, America is a two party system. But it is ignorance to believe one person, that the president can change America. Ignorance in a sense that the vast majority of people in this country have no idea how politics work. First off, Obama is powerless. Anything and everything he tries to pass has to got through the house and the senate before it becomes law. The senate members and the house are elected by the people. The people have the power. Until people become more responsible and start playing a serious roll when it comes to state elections (not just national) until people seriously want a change and do their homework about their candidates, nothing will change.

I interned on capitol hill and ive seen who people put in office. Bills work like this, there is the major proponent which carries the same subject matter as the bills title, and then there can be hundreds of additional, unrelated clauses tagged on. When it come to voting in the house, members rush when they hear the bell, dont read the bill, and vote based on party lines even though THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE VOTING ON. They look at the stats (dem vs rep) and vote accordingly, we need to stop putting people like this in office. It could be a bill on clean water but attached is a clause that creates a law that say every black child in the state of MI has to register with the police at birth or some shit like that, and that gets voted into reality thanks to the irresponsible people who are voted into the house and senate.

but gettin back to Obama, even through all the skepticism there was one thing that Obama being elected did promise - that America would finally take a serious and responsible look at the race issues that plague us.
