Inaugural Fashion

As excitement for the inauguration mounted, so did the speculation surrounding our new First Lady’s inaugural outfit.

Dressed to stun her audience, Michelle Obama arrived at the inaugural ceremony wearing a lemon-grass yellow dress with a matching cape made by designer Isabel Toledo. The back of the cape along with the sleeves were laced with Pashmina to keep her warm on the chilly yet memorable day. Her accessories included green J. Crew gloves and green Jimmy Choo pumps.

Her eveningwear, made by 26-year-old designer Jason Wu, was a white, one shoulder chiffon gown accentuated by what looked cottons balls. The gown hugged her upper body and just like a traditional wedding gown flowed down to her feet and tapered off in a slight train.

Like Michelle, Vice-President Joe Biden’s wife Jill Biden also dresses to impress. At the Inaugural Neighborhood Ball, Jill Biden took center stage with a cherry-red evening gown designed by Reem Acra. The strapless low-cut dress flowed down to the floor and was completed with gold strappy shoes. Leaving her neck bare, Jill only accessorized her gown with dangly earrings and a bracelet. It was elegant yet simple.

She’s a gorgeous woman with gorgeous taste. It’s good to see that she has her dresses made by upcoming young minority fashion designers. She doesn’t discriminate and she has given them a good name for their career.

I will be paying attention to Michelles outfits more often. I wonder how these nasty video girls feel when they see a classy, educated woman like her.
