Exclusive: World Series Rappers Still Not Paid

Ever wonder what the winners of WSOHH.com’s battle did with their 25 Grand? A new Whip? Perhaps a new Jesus Piece? How about nothing. According to the winners, WSOHH are being funny with the money.

After the battles went down over a month ago (Sept. 27) at the National Black Theatre in Harlem, viewers were given the opportunity to pick the winner for each battle via text message. Once results were in, the victors were to be paid that week. However, what was supposed to be a simple process quickly became a fiasco when viewers texted incorrect keywords. The vote was delayed for a week, and since then, artists were given a number of excuses for the absence of payment.

[Badboy Records solo artist E Ness was told 'votes were still being counted' or the WSOHH people had to 'work something out with MOtv'. Another source has said the lawyer present during the event was hired as a front, to create the impression everything was legit.]

“They officially announced me the winner and still haven’t paid,” fumes E Ness. He adds that in addition to the $25,000 promised to the winner – participants were supposed to each get a share of the profits made from the text message votes. “They shavers, man. Fuckin’ shavers,” says Ness.

A poised Lady Luck, champ of the female battle, only expressed disappointment. She said, “I hold no ill feelings towards WSOHH except disappointment. All the artists involved, regardless of status, came through and generated enough buzz for this to even be relevant. Everybody put whatever name they had on the line for that gwap and WSOHH still haven’t kept their end of the deal. The opportunity is appreciated but the headache isn’t.”

A heated Murda Mook, veteran of the underground battle scene and undisputed winner of round two, told the The Source, “I’m tryna be patient but shit aint lookin good, fuck World Series of hip hop. When I get my bread it’s still fuck em, them niggas are liars and conmen, fuck em fuck em fuck em!”

Whether WSOHH meant to front on its participants or not, this is bad for hip hop. It’s a time when rappers are looking for alternative ways to generate income through battles and live shows because of all the bootlegging going on. It’s also a time when competitive emcee battles are so necessary to a culture that is seldom producing real emcees and lyricists. The World Series of Hip Hop could have been a way to kill two birds with one stone, instead of, another case of rappers getting jerked.

A request for comment from the event’s organizer has not been returned. However, if we do hear from him – we’ll let you know!

UPDATE: We’ll be speaking with the organizer Friday… we’ll get his response up asap.

Checkout what rapper T-Rex had to say about the whole situation… it’s a mouthful.

Wow, we are supposed to help upcoming rappers make it so hip-hop will continue on, but this is rediculous, I understand the economy is bad and money is tight, but give the people what they deserve. This is not a good image for hip-hop they need to do something about this and fast.
