Live Blogging Election Day

Today is a historic day. TheSource.com is bringing you Election Day news as it happens.

12:16: Obama’s left the stage after a moving acceptance speech. “I’ll be your president too,” was his message to McCain supporters. Jesse Jackson and Oprah were both seen in the audience. Michelle Obama and the Bidens just joined him on stage.

11:57: PRESIDENT ELECT OBAMA IS ON STAGE IN CHICAGO!

11:35: President George W. Bush has reportedly called to congratulate Obama.

11:19:
McCain is addressing supporters. He congratulated Obama and the crowd booed!

11:00: Everyone is projecting an Obama victory!

10:22
Two of John McCain’s campaign aides say they see “no path to victory” at this point. (from CNN) Wow.

10:12:
MSNBC is putting McCain’s electoral votes higher at 135.

10:06:
MSNBC just showed a live shot from Harlem - people are gathered int he street - already celebrating!

10:00: Kansas and Utah for McCain. Obama has 206 electoral votes to McCain’s 89 - that’s according to CNN. It takes 270 electoral votes to win.

9:48: So… I hear a police helicopter! Do we think that’s related to the election? Things that make you go hmm…

9:41: BET’s Cousin Jeff is talking about McCain’s concession speech… is it a little early for that?? Maybe… maybe not…

9:30 OHIO… OHIO… OHIO!!! Yea, that’s a biggie. Several networks, including BET who I have to give kudos to on the election coverage, have called Ohio for Obama.

9:24: West Virgina goes to McCain too.

9:20: Georgia went to McCain.

9:07: It’s important to recognize that this race is not just about the presidency. Democrats are winning senate seats like crazy.

9:06: The pundits on CNN are talking about the positive effect an Obama presidency would have on the way the international community sees America.

8:56: On exit polls and projections: Everyone says they are often inaccurate and the whole time Wolf Blitzer and gang are giving you the information, they’re also telling you to take it with a grain of salt. And oh yea, they’re now predicting McCain will take Alabama. But they won’t pinky swear it.

8:45 - Also Obama has 102 electoral votes and McCain has 34.

8:43 - CNN projects Obama will take Pennsylvania. That was a biggie.

8:15:
My friend just told me over IM that Howard Dean just described Obama as “articulate” on MSNBC…. Really??

8:09:
Vermont - Obama, North Carolina - Obama, Ohio - Obama.

7:41: Florida numbers now show Obama leading with 57 percent. Overall popular vote: Obama 51 percent - McCain 48 percent

7:38: North Carolina: 51 percent Obama - 48 percent McCain. Separated by just 439 votes!

7:25: The early numbers for Florida and Virgina have McCain taking both states with 54 and 53 percent respectively. Obama has 46 percent in both states.

6:25: Early results show McCain taking Kentucky with 62 percent to Obama’s 36 percent and Obama taking Indiana with 55 percent to McCain’s 44 percent.

6:03 - the first polls (some in Kentucky and Indiana) have closed.

4:55: Rock the Vote is reporting that, according to early reports from several precincts, youth voter turnout had already exceeded 2004 tallies by 4pm today!

3:57:
Fox News is reporting that Obama is playing basketball.

3:28: Just got back from voting in central Harlem, NY. The lines weren’t bad, but they didn’t have the “I Voted” stickers. What’s up with that? Can I still get all that free stuff?

2:40 OK… he just said, “The Mac is back!”

2:39 McCain is speaking at a rally in Colorado, a battleground state.

2:15: The first polls close in just under four hours.

12:55 Just read Rev. Run’s Election Day Words of Wisdom. Had to share:

Good morning… Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting new results….. Vote for THAT ONE for president….
God is Love
Rev Run

12:27: Seven additional voting machines were just delivered to a polling place in Deerfield Beach, Fla., which opened this morning with just ONE voting machine. A man was also caught on video telling the predominately Black voter turnout that Democrats were actually scheduled to vote tomorrow!

12:25:
Uh-oh! Rhonda in Elmsford, NY just told The Source that her polling place opened late and had broken booths and bickering volunteers. She says it was “a three-ring circus.”

12:20: Terrence ended his spot with “Let’s go Obama!”

12:17: Hip-Hop stand up! BET’s Terrence J is on CNN discussing his “Crank the Vote” voter registration campaign.

12:11pm: The first photos of John and Cindy McCain voting in Arizona are being shown on TV right now.

10:23: Dan Rather just told MSNBC he was “blessed and honored” to “live long enough to see this day happen and to be part of this day.”

10:00: Talk about change - this is the first presidential election in 24 years without a Bush or a Clinton on the ballot.

9:35: Long lines are being reported across the country with most states expected record turnouts.

8:58: Joe and Jill Biden just voted in Delaware.

8:38: Barack and Michelle Obama are voting in Chicago - RIGHT NOW!

8:25: Former San Francisco mayor, Willie Brown just told CNN he never thought he’d be casting a vote for a presidential candidate of color and that there was nothing he was happier to be doing.

8:00am: Polls are now open in 36 states and D.C.
