Live Blogging The mtvU Woodies

The Source is in the house right now for the mtvU Woodie Awards - the awards show that celebrates the music voted best by college students.

This year over 5 million college students voted for their favorite artists. The night will include performances from the Cool Kids, Asher Roth and Santi (formerly Santogold). Will be blogging live about those performances and other highlights.

***************************************

10:17 - And that ladies and gents is a wrap. No, Hip-Hop didn’t win any big awards but we represented to the fullest!

10:15 - I think is the last song of the night… maybe that’s why all the guys in the press box behind me are liquored-up - uh-oh, our intern is hanging back there!

10:06 - I think it was Zoe Kravitz who just introduced Vampire Weekend and Chromeo. She said they would “rock your f—ing socks off!” She had a hat. Yep… pretty sure that was Zoe.

10:03 - Well, I guess Hip-Hop gets zero tonight! We’re guessing that was the last award… it went to Paramore. Whether or not you like rock, if you like vampires you know who they are! ;)

10:00 - They’re about to announce Woodie of the Year! Weezie’s nominated - Hip-Hop hasn’t had any winners tonight… but, it’s all good it’s all music!

9:50 - Source intern David just spotted some people making out at the bar… so that’s where the action goes on during commercial breaks!

9:43 - Santogold just shouted “our new president” on her way out… first Obama shout out of the night. I’m surprised.

9:35 - Santogold is on stage with a couple chicks in metallic capes. Would we expect anything less?

9:34 - Debbie Harry is presenting Santogold!

9:02 - They’re bumpin MIA “Paper Planes” - it’s just the video on the big screen but, by the crowd response to the track, you’d think she was in the house!

8:55 - The award went to Chromeo who had a huge presence on mtvU all year.

8:52 - Kid Sister is on stage presenting the award for the Left Field award and doing the bounce.. she’s really hyped and really loud.

8:51 - He went out to “Vivrant Thing” gotta love it!

8:47 - OK, Q-Tip is on stage rockin it solo bolo. Now, THIS is officially the most Hip-Hop moment of the night so far!

8:45 - Q-Tip just joined Lykke Li on stage! “Can I kick it?” “Yes you can!”

8:27 - Both N.E.R.D. and Kanye West were up for the Performance Woodie but it went to Atmosphere. We’re still waiting for the first big Hip-Hop winner of the night.

8:23 - Whomp, whomp… it went to Motion City Soundtrack won.. oh well, congrats guys!

8:22 - Ms. E. Badu’s “Honey” and Gnarls Barkley’s “Who’s Gonna Save My Soul” are up for best video…

8:19 - Now the credits are rolling. So, that opening was pretty dope. Might be the most Hip-Hop we get all night kids, but.. we’ll keep you posted! :)

8:18 - Nice body surf, Asher.

8:17 - They’re doing “Delivery Man” and throwing something into the crowd. Candy?

8:16 - Uh-oh! The Cool Kids just took to the stage with Asher and brought about 25 people with them.

8:13pm - Asher Roth is on stage and he still loves college.

It’s messed up we didnt’ win, but next year we got it in the bag, hands down. Hip-hop always has been around and its far from over, this is the beginning for hip-hop not the end.
